So if you're a Teen YouTuber who wants to ensure your content is being seen by as many people as possible, ensure you're catering to the connected TV crowd!

Most YouTube viewing happens on mobile, with 49.3% of total watch time this year. This is down slightly from last year's 50.4%. The firm, which is predicting a growth rate of 7.2% every year between 2021 and 2024, forecasts that in 2021, mobile video viewing will continue to drop to 48.5 per cent from 2019's record-high 50.6%. But mobile will continue to be the most popular platform for YouTube consumption.

Desktop viewing, which has been declining since 2015, is predicted to hit just 11.0% of total watch time this year. This is down from 12.0% in 2020 and 13.0% in 2019. eMarketer expects desktop's share of YouTube viewership to continue falling in the coming years.

As more and more people turn to connected TV devices to watch YouTube, content creators need to keep this growing audience in mind. By catering your content to the needs of connected TV viewers, you can make sure that your videos are being seen by the largest possible audience.

However, eMarketer explains that it takes multitasking into account in its analysis. So, for example, if someone is watching YouTube on a connected TV device while also browsing on their phone, eMarketer considers this to be one hour of TV viewing and one hour of mobile usage. eMarketer's study indicates that while most connected TV viewers use their phones, they'll do so simultaneously. The study found that people spend an average of four hours and three minutes watching YouTube on their phones every day while spending just over two hours watching YouTube on their connected TVs.

While most YouTube viewing still happens on mobile devices, the rise of connected TV is changing how people consume content. And as more and more people turn to connected TV devices to watch YouTube, content creators need to keep this growing audience in mind. By catering your content to the needs of connected TV viewers, you can make sure that your videos are being seen by the largest possible audience.

What's the significance of this?

YouTube is interested in competing with traditional television networks. For years, it has touted connected device viewership and tried to position itself as a rival for the advertising dollars marketers would spend on running commercials against TV shows.

The company's efforts to gain ad dollars have become so intense that it skipped the digital NewFronts in favour of the TV Upfronts, as it had previously done.

The fact that connected TV is becoming a bigger driver of views for YouTube, which means it's becoming an increasingly crucial area for pushing TV-sized ad revenue, especially when Shorts are stealing audience away from long-form content, was further confirmed by Magna Global's report.

TV ad spending will only continue to increase in the coming years as marketers look for ways to reach cord-cutters and people who don't watch traditional linear television. And YouTube, with its huge connected TV audience, is poised to benefit from this trend.

This is a huge opportunity for Teen YouTubers to see their content from a larger audience. By catering your content to the needs of connected TV viewers, you can make sure that your videos are being seen by the largest possible audience. So if you're a Teen YouTuber who wants to make sure your content is being seen by as many people as possible, start thinking about how you can cater to the needs of connected TV viewers.
