App Built for Kids
Today, sharing photos and connecting with others is a common form of interaction. Children see us sharing, they get excited about the apps their siblings are using and want to have those same experiences.
Unfortunately, today's apps are not designed for kids and very few companies are interested in doing the due diligence and the work that is required to create products for kids ages 13 and under.
And as the New York Times recently reported, “Only a handful of messaging and social apps — like Kudos, a photo-sharing app — are designed for younger children to use with parental permission and supervision. That’s because of a federal law, the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, known as COPPA, which requires services aimed at children to obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting, using or disclosing personal information from a child under 13 — like photos, videos, voice recordings, location, contact information and names.”
With a lot of discussion happening in the industry around apps for kids, we think it is important to talk about the fact that WE - as a team of executives - from both the tech and entertainment world, have come together to build an app that we feel is safe and fun but doesn’t necessarily create that serotonin addiction to social media as so many apps have done. Kudos is a positivity app designed specifically for kids under 13.
Built by executives from Pixar, Disney, Instagram, EA, Google and DreamWorks, we are proud that this app is quickly becoming a place that really fosters a positive experience for kids. Kudos keeps parents aware of the activities of their kids so they can begin to foster a fun and engaging digital relationship with them.
Another milestone is that Kudos is currently one of the Top Five Social Apps and an Editor’s Choice on Google Play. This recognition confirms the work that we are doing to change the narrative with social media through a platform that is 100% focused on positive experiences for kids.
Here is a video of the founder’s 11 year old son who talks about the creation of Kudos. We are creating a community designed specifically for kids so they can learn to use social media in a responsible and positive way.
